A technique is described for collection and measurement of carbon dioxide and methane produced by in vitro fermentations. The method involves use of a syringe for measuring the gas production rate and a combustion train with sodium hydroxide traps for the quantitative absorption of the gases for titration and isotopic or other analyses.
