John W. Atwood (1915–1973)

ABSTRACT

John Wright Atwood was born on July 8, 1915, in Melrose, Massachusetts. He died on August 19, 1973, while vacationing in Maine. In 1941, John graduated with distinction from Connecticut State College with a B.S. degree in dairy production. From 1941 to 1948 he worked for H. P. Hood and Sons, Milk Producers, where he subsequently became superintendent of the test cow herd at their Cherry Hill Farm. He was employed as the extension dairyman in Rhode Island from 1948 to 1953 when he received his M.S. degree in agricultural economics from the University of Rhode Island. From 1953 to 1960 John was assistant advertising manager of the Guernsey Breeders' Journal. In 1960 he returned to the University of Rhode Island as an associate professor and the state's extension dairy specialist.

John was a dedicated man. His time, energy, and interest belonged to the dairy industry — he would have
