T. Calislar and L. E. St. Clair

Department of Veterinary Biological Structure, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois, Urbana 61801

ABSTRACT

Landmarks and other criteria were established for location of the parathyroid gland of domestic ruminants.

The parathyroid gland consisted of two portions on each side of the Laryngeal area. They are officially designated at Externa III and Interna IV. The external gland was located near the termination of the common carotid artery. It could be associated with the submandibular salivary gland. The internal gland lay near or embedded in the thyroid gland. In each case it was a brownish rounded but firm body which could be separated from the surrounding tissue.
