ABSTRACT

Dr. E. E. Heizer retired January 1, 1974, after completing 36 years of dedicated service to the University of Wisconsin College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. During this time, he served as Chairman of the Department of Dairy Science for 25 years and as Director of International Agricultural Programs for 11 years.

Dr. Heizer came to the University of Wisconsin in 1938 as the first chairman of the newly formed Dairy Husbandry Department. Under his chairmanship, the teaching, research, and extension programs of the Dairy Science Department matured. He personally participated in these departmental activities, and his unselfish devotion to student and staff members fostered a camaraderie that exemplified the "Wisconsin Idea" of working together toward a common goal.

As the first Director of International Programs for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Dr. Heizer extended his professional contribution beyond the field of dairying. His vision, enthusiasm, and breadth of experience enabled him to ably direct and coordinate meaningful international agricultural programs between the College, USAID, and developing countries.
