Status of the Journal of Dairy Science for 1973 and Editorial Comments

Lon D. McGilliard, Editor-in-Chief

Michigan State University, East Lansing 48823

ABSTRACT

Transition of editors from experienced to inexperienced was the significant change of Volume 56. The training, advice, and help graciously given by Editor-emeritus E. O. Herreid reduced the visibility of change. The constant most helpful in stabilizing the transition was the expertise and guidance of Executive Secretary C. J. Cruse. We recognize also the support of the Journal Management Committee, the Board of Directors, the Editorial Board and other reviewers, and authors offering their papers (at least their patience and understanding).

Volume 56 was smaller than 55 and 54. The distribution of contents is in Table 1. The number of manuscripts submitted in 1973 is about 80 less than offered in 1972.

Turbulences for preparation of Volume 56 were few but troublesome. I regret J. E. Kinsella's need to resign as Associate Editor and the loss of his helpful skill. Journal Management is seeking a replacement. Indexing could have been a problem had not Herreid solved that by preparing the subject index this year.
