Nutritive Value of Kochia scoparia. III. Digestibility of Kochia Hay Compared with Alfalfa Hay1

Texas Tech University Center, Pantex 79069

ABSTRACT

Digestibility studies with sheep compared the digestibility and nitrogen balance with all roughage ratios containing ground kochia hay at 100, 75, 50, 25, and 0% replacing equal weights of ground alfalfa hay. Digestibility of energy components increased linearly with higher kochia. Apparent digestibility of crude protein was similar between ration treatments. Nitrogen retention tended to improve as alfalfa increased.
