ABSTRACT

Samples of moldy and unmoldy corn silage submitted after several beef cows fed the moldy silage died were cultured for identification of fungi. Colonies of Aspergillus fumigatus were identified on dilution plates up to dilutions of 5 x 106. Large numbers of A. fumigatus spores were in the samples of moldy corn silage. A. fumigatus is a pathogen of animals and man. Special precautions in handling of moldy silage are recommended. Analysis for aflatoxin by thin layer chromatography was negative.
