Executive Secretary's Comments

Claude Cruse

ABSTRACT

During 1965 and 1966 the officers and directors of the American Dairy Science Association gave considerable thought and study to establishing a National Office. After many meetings and hours of deliberation the officers and directors investigating the feasibility of a National Office agreed that a National Office with a full-time staff should be established as expediently as possible. This decision followed a study of other proposals to carry on the affairs of the Association after the retirement from many years of dedicated service of Dr. H. F. Judkins, who was Secretary-Treasurer through many administrations.

At the annual meeting of the Association in Corvalis, Oregon, in June of 1966 I was appointed the first full-time Executive Secretary of the American Dairy Science Association, effective September 1, 1966. Little did I realized the adjustments require, changing from a 20 year profession in the graphic arts with a printing and publishing firm to an administrative position for a scientific organization.
