ABSTRACT

The new nutritional labeling regulations proposed by the Food and Drug Administration may have a major impact on the dairy industry. Consequently, in January I appointed the following committee to represent our Association and keep us informed: H. E. Calbert (Chairman), D. M. Graham and W. M. Roberts. This committee will meet with FDA personnel and appropriate industry representatives in an attempt to clarify the situation and will advise us as to how the American Dairy Science Association and its members can aid in resolving problems created by the new regulations.

The Program Committee of our Association is planning a number of timely symposia for the 1973 annual meeting. One which should be of interest to everyone will relate to the place of milk and milk products in the American diet. The subject, including possible desirable product alterations, will be discussed from three angles: production, processing and nutritional value. There will be a symposium on milk protein jointly sponsored by the Manufacturing Section and the Production Division.
