Characterization of Bovine Serum Lipoproteins

R. M. Wendlandt1

Department of Dairy Science, University of Illinois, Urbana 61801

ABSTRACT

Two experiments were conducted to separate and determine lipid content of bovine serum lipoproteins. The first experiment established virtual absence of very low-density lipoproteins (1.005 < density <1.019) in serum of lactating dairy cows. Results of the second experiment indicated that chylomicrons (density < 1.005), low-density lipoproteins (1.005 < density < 1.063), and high-density lipoproteins (1.063 < density < 1.21) contained 2.0, 26.5, and 71.5% of total serum lipids.
