ABSTRACT

C. W. Reaves, Florida Extension Dairyman, is now working on an AID — University of Florida assignment for assistance in the development of a unified research, teaching, and extension program in animal science in the National Center for Agricultural Technology, El Salvador, Central America.

Professor Reaves retired in 1971 after 24 years as the Extension Dairy Science Section Leader, University of Florida, Gainesville. He spent 10 years in extension dairy work in Tennessee prior to moving to Florida.

He gave leadership to the development of the AI program in Florida, the State 4-H Dairy Show and a series of district shows in 1948, and helped organize three state breed clubs and the state PDCA. During the 1950's he organized dairy schools of one-night weekly sessions in the major dairy areas of the state and directed a state-wide Florida Dairy Forage Contest from 1953 to 1960, inclusive, which served to point up improved practices in pasture and forage production for dairy cows.
