ABSTRACT

The {delta}-C10, {delta}-C12, and {delta}-C14 lactones isolated from milk lipids following the intravenous administration of (1-carbon 14) acetate to a lactating goat had lower specific radioactivities compared to their corresponding fatty acids. The {delta}-C16 lactone had a higher specific radioactivity than the palmitic acid at 3 and 4 h after administration of tracer reflecting the dilution of the endogenous palmitic acid by that supplied by the circulating blood lipids. Several explanations for the dilution in specific radioactivity of the resulting lactones are discussed.
