Respiration and Circulation. Compiled and edited by Phillip L. Altman and Dorothy S. Dittmer. Prepared under auspices of the Committee on Biological Handbooks, Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, Bethesda, Maryland, 930 pages, 1971, $30.

This volume represents a comprehensive accumulation of data in over 232 tables of information for the biological scientist. It is one of a comprehensive series of biological handbooks which have included in the past ten years: Blood and Other Body Fluids; Growth, Including Reproduction and Morphological Development; Environmental Biology; Metabolism; and the Biology Data Book. An impressive list of individuals were involved in this project including advisory committees on the handbook series and for this volume and the contributors and reviewers of the actual materials included.

The contents are divided into eleven main parts: I, General Principles; II, Basic Physical and Chemical Data; III, Thorax and Ventilation; IV, Airways and Gas Movement; V, Blood Gases; VI, Heart and Pumping Action
