ABSTRACT
Over the past three years, the Milk Synthesis Program Committee of the American Dairy Science Association has organized this interdisciplinary session for individuals interested in physiology of lactation, milk synthesis and secretion, and milk chemistry. This joint session, now an integral part of the Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association, has effectively brought together physiologists and chemists interested in problems ranging from the biosynthesis of milk to chemistry of the secreted product. It is recognized that the community of workers sharing these interests is far greater than currently represented by those now active in the Association. It is also common knowledge that there is no single meeting where researchers can present their recent work and interact with others in this field of study on an annual basis. During the past year, a strong effort was made to contact individuals interested in the biology of lactation and chemistry of milk, regardless of their professional affiliations or species orientation, and determine if they had an interest in supporting such an annual symposium through contribution of papers and attendance.
