Professor Jacob G. (Jerry) Cash, has retired from active service on the staff at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, after nearly 41 years of distinguished service to the dairy industry in Illinois and in the nation. Cash was extension dairy specialist in Illinois from 1931 to 1970 and served as project leader of the dairy extension program for more than 15 years. He was a member of the resident teaching staff of the department of dairy science for the past 18 months.
A native of Brocton, Illinois, Cash attended Blackburn College, Car-linville, Illinois, for two years. He transferred to the University of Illinois where he received the B.S. degree in 1931 and the M.S. degree in 1936.
Cash always considered the dairy production record program as the foundation of his extension education program. He was instrumental in making Illinois one of the early leaders in computerized processing of Dairy Herd Improvement records and initiated the weigh-a-day-a-month milk production record plan in 1954.
