Citation for Edward William Custer, Recipient of the Honors Award for Distinguished Service to the Dairy Industry of the South

ABSTRACT

The Honoree is a noted scientist and a distinguished teacher. He received the B.S. degree in dairy manufacturing in 1947, and later the M.S. degree in microbiology, both from Mississippi State University. He has been on this University's staff since 1947, holding the rank of professor.

His responsibilities at the University have been divided between teaching and research. Because of outstanding ability as a teacher, his teaching load has taken most of his time. He is one of the most respected instructors on the campus. While his students know him as a tough taskmaster, they respect him for his fairness, knowledge of subject matter, and the ability to put the material across. His students are sought after by major dairy companies throughout the United States.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, this individual has coached the dairy products evaluation team for the past 19 years. In 18 of those years, his judging teams placed in the top 10 teams in the nation.
