Each year the College of Agriculture Alumni Association, University of Illinois at Urbana, presents an Award of Merit to outstanding graduates. Basis for this award are: a B.S. degree from the University College of Agriculture; outstanding accomplishments in a chosen area; significant contributions to agriculture; and contributions to good citizenship and community service.
Russell J. Ramsey received the Award of Merit February 12, 1972.
A native of Illinois, Ramsey was born in Perry County and graduated from Sesser High School in Franklin County. He earned his way through the University of Illinois and graduated from the College of Agriculture, majoring in dairy manufacturers in 1930. After graduation, Ramsey was appointed assistant in the department of dairy husbandry and received the M.S. degree in 1932. He completed all courses and passed examinations for the Ph.D. degree but before writing a thesis, he accepted a position with Telling-Belle-Vernon Company in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1935.
