ABSTRACT

Any successful organization has a certain number of "unsung hereos." These are individuals who work very hard for the organization but receive little, if any, credit of acclamation for their services. The American Dairy Science Association is no exception. Our "unsung heroes" are the anonymous members of the various award selection committees. Approximately forty-five members of our Association are just completing the difficult task of selecting the recipients of the various awards and honors presented at our annual meeting. It is not uncommon for a person to serve three years on a selection committee. Each year they must review the dossiers of the nominees for an award and then by secret ballot make their selection. Frequently it is necessary to ballot several times. The names of the members serving on these selection committees are known to only a few officers of the Association and the chairman of their particular committee.
