Feeding Value of Roasting Soybeans for Dairy Cows

A. H. Rakes, D. G. Davenport and G. R. Marshall

Department of Animal Science, North Carolina State University, Raleigh 27607

ABSTRACT

In a 60-day reversal trial with two groups of six lactating cows, roasting soybeans at 118 C for approximately 3.5 minutes increased their acceptability in the concentrate mixture (P < .01). However, this process did not alter coefficients of apparent digestibility for crude protein, crude fiber, ether extract, or dry matter in these rations. Fat-corrected milk production of cows on the two feeds was not different (P > .05).
