ABSTRACT
Energy balance measurements related the amount of metabolizable energy required by the pregnant cow to the stage of pregnancy. The amount of metabolizable energy required at term was 75% above that of a nonpregnant animal of equal weight. The increase in metabolizable energy requirement during the course of pregnancy was described by the equation y = 100.8 + 0.567 e.0174t where y is kcal ME/kg3/4/day, and t is number of days pregnant.
