Retirement

Byron H. Webb

Dr. Byron H. Webb, a U.S. Department of Agriculture scientist who has pioneered research on dairy products and byproducts, has retired as chief of the Dairy Products Laboratory in Washington, D.C. The laboratory is part of the Eastern Marketing and Nutrition Research Division of USDA's Agricultural Research Service headquartered at Philadelphia. Dr. Webb began working at this laboratory in 1926, the year after his graduation from the University of California. While working, he earned the M.S. degree from George Washington University in 1928. He left temporarily to work on a fellowship at Cornell University where he received the Ph.D. degree in dairy industry in 1931. After 25 years with the Department, Dr. Webb joined the National Dairies Research Laboratories in 1951, where he became director of research. He returned to USDA's Dairy Products Laboratory in 1960 as its chief, a position he held until retirement.

The veteran dairy scientist is well known throughout the dairy industry through his writings.
