ABSTRACT

Twenty-four lactating Guernsey cows were in a switchback trial to compare the effect of individual versus group feeding on feed intake and milk production. A blended ration of 60% corn silage, 40% concentrate (dry basis) was fed twice daily. Dry matter intakes of group-fed cows were 7% greater, an amount of digestible energy equivalent to 25% of the maintenance requirement. Actual milk and 4% fat-corrected milk production were not significantly different (P > .05) between treatments.
