In April of 1970 the Food and Drug Administration established a task force to study the implications from the use of antibiotics in animal feeds to human and animal health. The task force report was released by Commissioner Edwards on January 31, 1972. The principal recommendations call on FDA to restrict some antibiotics for use by veterinarians only if safety and effectiveness cannot be proven. The complete recommendations of the task force are as follows:
Recommendations
Research. The Task Force recommends that money be allocated to undertake research in the following areas:
