ABSTRACT

Professor Donald L. Murray, dairy extension specialist at Michigan State University, has retired from active service on the Michigan staff after more than 30 years of service to the nation's dairy industry.

A native of Edgely, North Dakota, Murray received the B.S. degree from North Dakota State in 1934 and the M.S. degree from Kansas State University in 1938. He came to Michigan in 1946 from an extension position at North Dakota State College in Fargo.

In 1966 Murray was named by a committee of his peers in the American Dairy Science Association as the outstanding extension dairyman in the U.S., receiving the prestigious DeLaval Award. He was also active in the enactment of a uniform dairy inspection code under enforcement by the Michigan Department of Agriculture, unifying all dairy sanitation and health standards.

He served prominently as coordinator of the University's dairy department extension programs for a major portion of his tenure, and participated in both state and national dairy organizations.
