Alfred Herman Rishoi (1892–1972)

ABSTRACT

Alfred Rishoi had a long, useful and interesting life. His attractive personality and his love of people won lifelong friends, many of them fellow members in the American Dairy Science Association.

Alfred was born in White, South Dakota, on December 19, 1892. When he was in third grade, his parents decided to spend Christmas in Denmark, their homeland. The visit became a seven-year stay, so the boy had his early schooling in that country. He received his B.S. degree from South Dakota State College in 1916.

His first work was that of assistant state dairy expert in his home state from 1916 to 1919. Then came two years as creamery operator before he joined the staff of Washington State College at Pullman as instructor. He was on leave from that position when we met, while sharing experiences - and faculty advisors - as graduate students at Cornell University in 1923-24.
