ABSTRACT

After a long and distinguised career in the U.S. Department of Agriculture since 1931, A. W. (Andy) Colebank retired from the Federal Service June 30, 1972.

Andy Colebank was born and reared on a farm in Shelby County, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee's School of Agriculture, carning the B.S. degree in 1931.

He received the Payne Fellowship to study government operations during 1931–32 with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Extension Service.

In 1934 Colebank was appointed marketing specialist in the USDA Dairy Division—the beginning of the Federal Milk Marketing Program in which he had over the years, a responsible role as researcher, organizer, and administrator.

From 1935 to mid-1938 he enrolled in a program of graduate study in agricultural economics at the University of Wisconsin. He continued to work with the USDA during summers, returning again to full-time employment in the Federal service in 1938.
