The President's Comments

ABSTRACT

Last year Dr. Calbert initiated the practice of frequent brief comments in the Journal of Dairy Science about subjects of concern to ADSA members. I found his remarks interesting and informative. Therefore, when appropriate, I plan to do likewise.

The sequential scheduling of our annual meeting with that of the American Society of Animal Science provided our first opportunity for evaluation of this type of arrangement. A number of advantages, as well as problems, became apparent.

At the annual business meeting of the ADSA, those present reacted favorably to a combined meeting but expressed a preference for concurrent rather than sequential scheduling. Additionally, the time preference was early summer (June). Since meetings of both the ADSA and ASAS are scheduled several years in advance, future combined meetings, ever if deemed desirable, cannot be arranged for some time. If we strongly favor such combined meetings, however, and if the ASAS concurs, steps should be taken soon to implement the arrangement for the future.
