ABSTRACT
On behalf of the subcommittee which is responsible for arranging this program, I welcome you to this symposium. This subcommittee is composed of members of the International Relations Committee of which R. E. McDowell of Cornell University is chairman.
In the past we have featured papers on dairy problems in the various countries. We have been aware of the effects of climate conditions, factors involving native breeds of cattle, and attempts to upgrade the dairy status by focusing on improved animal husbandry.
Before consumers can enjoy dairy products, however, there is another vital link of which we have learned less. This is efficient processing and distribution of dairy products. Every country plans which affect the state of processing and distribution.
We believed in planning this program that you would enjoy the experiences of men who either live there or have worked in other countries for extended periods. They know their subject from practical experience.
1 Presented at the Sixty-fifth Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association, The University of Florida, Gainsville, June 1970.
