ABSTRACT
Professor Ole Martin Ystgaard, Department of Dairy Industry, Agricultural College of Norway, passed away after a short illness (heart attack) on September 19, 1970. He was born in Sparbu near Trondheim on June 21, 1910. After studying at the University of Trondheim he continued training and studies in dairy industry, graduating from the Agricultural College of Norway in 1939. After a short employment in the dairy industry he devoted himself to research and teaching, and for a decade he was attached to the National School for Dairy Technicians.
From his youngest days he was deeply interested in biochemical problems and after World War II he visited Denmark to work with the Nobel laureate, Dr. Henrik Dam. Later, a Governmental fellowship brought him across the Atlantic to Iowa State University where he majored in dairy industry and received the M.S. degree in 1950. the thorough training and the strong impressions that the inspiring year in Iowa was a solid basis for his future activity when in 1951 he accepted a chair in dairy technology.
