ABSTRACT
The A protein of human milk lactose synthetase (UDP-d-galactose : d-glucose 1-galaotosyltransferase EC 2.4.1.22) was purified and investigated. The A protein contained hexose (galactose, mannose fucose), hexosamiie (galactosamine and glucosamine) and sialic acid. Thus the A protein was identified as a glycoprotein enzyme. Amino acid composition determined that proline and glutamic acid were very high. Molecular weight of the A protein was estimated at 72,000 to 75,000 by gel filtration and electrophoretic mobility.
