ABSTRACT

Retirement

J. Hoffman Erb

J. Hoffman Erb has retired from the Borden Company after 27 years of productive and distinguished service.

A native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he received the B. S. degree from the State University in 1927 and the M.S. degree from the Ohio State University in 1928. Both degrees were in dairy manufacturing. He enrolled in special work in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin in 1933.

From 1929 to 1943 he was assistant professor, department of dairy technology at the Ohio State University. He was an effective and inspiring teacher, providing the foundation and stimulus for many young men who hold prominent positions in the dairy industry and on university faculties. He became recognized for research on frozen dairy foods and evaporated milk, and his counsel on technological phases of these products was widely sought by colleagues, industry, and regulatory agencies.

In 1943 Mr. Erb joined the Borden Company where he was advanced to vice president and co-director of production in the company's midwest milk and ice cream division.
