ABSTRACT
I have been asked to discuss the subject, "What the student expects in the classroom." In preparing for this assignment, I have attempted to recall some of the instructors that I had in college, both as an undergraduate and graduate student. I have tried to remember what I considered both good and bad instructors, and some of the qualities and traits of them.
First, some of the general characteristics of the poor instructors were lack of organization, objectives, and interest in teaching. A few instructors presented outdated material of little value to the student entering his chosen profession. A lack of personal communication and interest in the student was common.
In recalling qualities of good instructors, they had a genuine interest in teaching and in the student. The one trait that separated the good from the poor instructor was enthusiasm for teaching and for the subject. Remembering my undergraduate experiences, instructors that stimulated my thought processes were usually enthusiastic.
