ABSTRACT
Variation exists in the teaching function, just as it exists in any other human endeavor. There are variations among athletes, in track meets, basketball, and football; among salesmen, managers, dentists, and farmers; and in teaching.
Teachers want to teach well; people want to perform in their jobs at a relatively high level. We want to succeed, to have the personal satisfaction that results. This is a basic human quality, to do our task as well as it can be done within our native limitations.
We are competitive in a capitalistic society which is based on competition that permeates all our activities, not just the monetary. As teachers we compete with our colleagues. We compete for the attention, perhaps, of our current students, their parents, or alumni.
We want to excel. And if teaching is our business we want to excel as teachers.
These are very positive aand constructive characteristics that I recognize in a good faculty.
