ABSTRACT
For the first time the Sixty-fifth Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association was held in the South, on the attractive campus of the University of Florida at Gainesville.
Founded in 1853 with 136 students and now in its second century as a land-grant university of more than 20,000 resident students, the University of Florida has moved forward with vision and enthusiasm by offering general and highly specialized education to the state's youth in 15 colleges and in 2 schools.
The 2,000 acre campus at Gainesville has 600 buildings in a blend of Gothic and modern architecture. The University also includes 14,000 acres off the main campus, with branch agricultural experiment stations located in the fruit, livestock and vegetable producing areas of the state.
The University's Division of Continuing Education offers many educational programs to adults away from campus. By means of off-campus credit classes, correspondence study and special programs of instruction, the Division provides educational opportunities for more than 28,000 persons annually.
