ABSTRACT

Fifteen Latin American institutions have graduate programs with 27 different curricular choices. These institutions are in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. The M.S. degree is offered in each school, but only the National School of Agriculture in Mexico offers a Ph.D. program. Other schools will offer doctoral programs within 2 to 5 years.

The first to develop a graduate program was the Inter-American Institute for Agricultural Science (IICA), Turrialba, Costa Rica. With this exception the graduate programs in Latin America are 11 years old or less. At most of the 15 institutions graduate enrollment is increasing rapidly and there is, in general, a vigorous program for training graduate faculty members.
