ABSTRACT

A method is described for altering intraruminal temperature in cattle. Heat transfer is accomplished by circulating water through an intraruminal tube of coiled stainless steel. Water temperature can be regulated within ± 0.5 C over a range of 10 to 50 C. Rumen temperatures between 33.5 and 43.7 C have been achieved.
