A man who has seen important changes in one of Oregon's major agricultural industries is retiring. Harold P. Ewalt, Oregon State University extension dairy specialist, is ending 40 years of service to the state and nation's dairy industry, effective October 31, 1969. A native Oregonian, Ewalt has spent his professional career at the State University in teaching, research and extension dairy work. Nationally recognized for his extension programs, he was honored in 1968 at the Sixty-third Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association with the $1,000 DeLaval Award for outstanding contributions to dairy extension.
"Harold Ewalt has not only been an outstanding educator, he has consistently served as a stabilizing influence on Oregon's dairy industry which has seen intense controversy at times as well as major changes in technology," commented Gene M. Lear, Director, Oregon State University Cooperative Extension Service, in announcing Ewalt's retirement.
"Perhaps the biggest compliment that can be paid such a man is to point out that dairymen throughout the years have turned to Ewalt for sound advice and guidance," Lear added.
