ABSTRACT

Contribution from ADSA Representative to the U.S. Livestock Sanitary Association

H. J. Bearden

Mississippi State University

The Annual Meeting of the U.S. Livestock Sanitary Association was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, October 6–11, 1968. The Brucellosis Committee recommended that the age of vaccination be established at 3 to 8 months for dairy heifers and that owners be urged to arrange to have calves vaccinated as close as possible to the minimum age. The committee also reaffirmed its recommendation that beginning January 1, 1970, officially vaccinated heifers of the dairy breeds be tested at 20 months of age. The committee on Infectious Diseases of Cattle urged that individual states enact regulations requiring that bulls used in AI meet the minimum health standards as set forth by NAAB. Cases of confirmed rabies increased 10% during 1967 over the number reported in 1966. Cattle cases represented 13% of the total.
