Symposium: Improving Communications and Research Cooperation Between Industry and University Personnel

University Looks for Improved Research and Communications with Industry

R. W. Bartlett

Department of Agricultural Economics, University of Illinois, Urbana 61801

ABSTRACT

During the present century, the University of Illinois has been a leader in encouraging research and communication with the Dairy Industry. This started with Professor Wilbur J. Fraser, who in 1906 was one of the founders of the American Dairy Science Association, and has continued through the long productive careers of many other Illinois professors who have been leaders in dairy research, teaching, and extension.

The writer has spent four decades in research, teaching, and extension in dairy marketing at the University of Illinois. It has occurred to him that some research problems on which he and his colleagues at Illinois have worked might furnish a frame of reference for this paper.

In the field of research, the writer has worked to a greater or lesser degree on each of the following:

  1. Stores sales of milk versus home delivery
  2. Paper containers versus glass containers
  3. Effect of price upon per capita sales of milk
