Reorganization of Michigan's Dairy Herd Improvement Association

D. L. Murray

Dairy Department, Michigan State University, East Lansing

ABSTRACT

Organization

The organizational structure of Dairy Herd Improvement Associations has remained essentially the same since the first Association was organized in Newaygo County, Michigan, in 1905. However, during this time, record information has expanded, the role of the supervisor and procedures followed in providing service have changed and, certainly, required reports and procedures for an organization to conduct its business have vastly changed.

Reorganization. In view of this situation, a resolution was passed at an annual meeting of Michigan Dairy Herd Improvement Association delegates in March, 1966, for a study committee to propose by-law changes of the existing state organization for consideration at the next annual meeting. Meetings were held throughout the state to inform Associaion members of proposed changes and an opportunity for discussion provided prior to their voting at the annual meeting in March, 1967. Seventy per cent of the votes cast approved reorganization.
