ABSTRACT

C. L. Cole Retires from the University of Minnesota

Dr. C. L. Cole, special assistant to the dean of the University of Minnesota's Institute of Agriculture and former head of the University's Department of Animal Science, retired June 30 after a distinguished career as teacher, researcher and administrator at the University of Minnesota.

A well-known animal scientist, Cole's career at the University began in 1929 when he came to the University of Minnesota to become a member of the staff at the North Central Experiment Station in Grand Eapids and to pursue graduate study. He received his M.S. degree in 1936, and his Ph.D. degree in 1956, both from the University of Minnesota.

Cole was a pioneer in artificial breeding of dairy cattle. In 1938 he presented the first paper in the nation on this subject at the forty-third annual meeting of the American Dairy Science Association in Columbus, Ohio.
