A great teacher and dairy leader for more than half a century, George B. Caine died in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 4, 1969. Born September 16, 1889, to a family of outstanding livestock men, he pioneered the dairy training at Utah State University. After receiving a B.S. Degree in 1912 from Utah State University, he was employed for a year as a dairy specialist in Idaho. He then attended the University of Missouri where he received the A.M. Degree in 1914 and was employed at Utah State University. In 1919 he was appointed head of the newly created dairy husbandry department, a position he held until retired in 1957. Although he contributed to research and extension, his role teacher and counselor of students will be remembered as his outstanding contribution. He bred an outstanding herd of dairy animals, the most widely known of which was Burkgov Inka DeKol, and he served as an official judge for most of the dairy breeds.
