Analysis of Rumen Fluid Volatile Fatty Acids by Chromatography with Porapak QS1

D. W. Kellogg

Dairy Department, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces 88001

ABSTRACT

Porapak QS treated with 2% phosphoric acid was used as column packing for gas chromatographic analysis of volatile fatty acids in rumen fluid. With this column packing easily prepared aqueous rumen fluid samples may be analyzed without the serious problem of peak tailing, which has been encountered previously.
