ABSTRACT

N. P. Tarassuk Retires

Dr. N. P. Tarassuk, Professor of Food Science and Technology at the University of California, Davis, retired on February 1, 1968, after 32 years of service and is now residing in DeBilt, Holland.

He was born in the Russian Ukraine on April 16, 1904. During the Russian revolution he immigrated to the United States via China and became a naturalized citizen in 1929. At the time of the Russian revolution young Tarassuk, son of an artillery officer in the Czar's army, chose not to follow his family out of the Ukraine, but to remain with the troops. He was later entered in military school and as the revolution progressed, he, with many of his fellow students of similar background, fought a retreating action across Siberia. After a period in Japan these young men were transferred to Shanghai where White Russian funds supported them for a time.
