ABSTRACT

B. L. Herrington Retires from Cornell

Dr. B. L. Herrington, Professor of Dairy Chemistry at the New York State College of Agriculture, Cornell University, retired on December 31, 1967 after 39 years of service.

He was born in Akron, Ohio on June 12, 1904. His family later moved to St. Mary's, West Virginia where he was graduated from high school. In 1921 he entered Montana State College and received his B.S. degree in 1925. While an undergraduate, he was employed as a laboratory assistant by Dr. P. F. Sharp, then working on wheat products at the Experiment Station. After graduation he continued working as assistant chemist in the wheat products laboratory under Dr. Arnold Johnson. These three people later left this laboratory to work in the dairy industry.

In 1928, Herrington entered the Graduate School of Cornell University, majoring in Dairy Chemistry under Dr. P. F. Sharp who had preceded him to Ithaca.
