Department of Dairy, Michigan State University, East Lansing

ABSTRACT

Ketosis was detected prior to clinical symptoms 69% of the time by using a milk ketone test at weekly intervals. Three-fourths of the cows contracted some disease within 14 days of reacting to positive milk ketone test. Thus, testing milk for ketones could be useful in maintaining general herd health.
