Professor C. H. Parsons Honored
Professor Clarence H. Parsons, who retired from the University of Massachusetts on September 1, 1967, was honored at the Dairy Farmers' Seminar Banquet on January 17, 1968. He was awarded the Department of Veterinary, Dairy and Animal Sciences Alumni Achievement Award. The presentation was made by Professor R. C. Foley. He was also given a portfolio of testimonial letters from many friends. In addition, Dean A. A. Spielman lauded Professor Parsons for many contributions to the University Extension program and to the foreign aid program in Malawi, Africa.
Professor Parsons was an outstanding Extension Dairyman. When he assumed responsibility for the testing program, only 10% of the state's cows were in the program. He was successful in increasing the number to 30%, fourth highest in the country, by making the program more useful to dairy farmers. Massachusetts was one of the first to make wide use of the new electronic data processing of DHIA records.
