ABSTRACT
In considering the question, What can the Association do for the Dairy Industry? one is impelled, first of all, to consider the question, What does the Association want to do for the Dairy Industry? If the Association is sincerely interested in serving the commercial interests effectively, then it should establish some clearly defined goals for this objective and formulate and activate plans to achieve these goals.
Over the years, the Association has vacillated in its attempts to serve the Dairy Industry. Numerous programs have been proposed and given consideration by the Executive Board. In some cases, plans were developed and action approved to enlist greater support from one segment or another in industry. However, in many cases, these efforts were spasmodic and short-lived. Such temporary spasms were undoubtedly the natural consequence of having annual major changes in officers of the Association and in the membership of appropriate committees, and in the lack of a medium for insuring that well-designed and meaningful programs would be perpetuated with vigor, determination, and persistence.
