Food for Freedom with Some Implications

Martin Kriesberg

ABSTRACT

We live in troubled times. We are concerned by the material abundance we have and how poorly we manage much of it. We are troubled by the great disparity between our abundance and the abysmal poverty of half the people of this world.

The Food for Freedom legislation attempts to deal with this situation in its most basic form-food. The legislation is concerned with the use of our abundance of food production and of technical skills, helping developing countries rise above their poverty. It seeks to help those who would help themselves increase their productive capability and bridge the gap between food demand and supplies.

Underlying Facts and Assumptions of New Directions

What are the facts underlying the Food for Freedom legislation? For simplicity in seeing the world food problem we discuss it in terms of grain. For most of the World's population, this is the basic food and it may be the only food they have.
