ABSTRACT
On December 21, 1965, I reecived a letter inviting me to serve on a Biological Science Action Committee on Food Science. The first two paragraphs of that letter are as follows:
"As you know, reappraisals of goals and major curricula adjustments are under way in many institutions that offer instructional programs in agriculture and related fields. At the same time, undergraduate education in the biological sciences is changing rapidly. Because of these developments, and especially because of the importance of the biological sciences in agricultural and related curricula, we are initiating a project concerned with the biological science preparation of undergraduates in agriculture, natural resources, and allied fields. The project will be co-sponsored by the Panel on Preprofessional Training for the Agricultural Sciences of the Commission on Undergraduate Education in the Biological Sciences (CUEBS) and the Commission on Education in Agricultural and Natural Resources (CEANAR) of the National Academy of Science—National Research Council.
1 Review of the Preliminary Report of the Food Science Action Committee of the CUEBS-CEANAR Biological Sciences Study Program. The report does not necessarily represent the views of the members of CUEBS or CEANAR.
